welcome
The Prison Veterans Society was created to ensure that former prison staff never feel forgotten after leaving the service.
Built on respect, camaraderie, and shared experience, the society provides a welcoming space where Prison Veterans can reconnect with old colleagues, rebuild friendships, and continue the sense of belonging formed throughout their years of service.

What began as a simple idea quickly became something far more meaningful. After visiting two former colleagues who had left the Prison Service, it became painfully clear how many people were struggling with the loss of connection, identity, and community that service once provided. Those conversations and shared emotions highlighted just how important it is for Prison Veterans to remain connected and supported long after leaving the role.

The Prison Veterans Society was formed to rebuild those connections, restore that sense of community, and ensure that no former member of staff ever feels isolated or forgotten.

Whether you have recently retired, left the service years ago, or are partially retired, you remain part of a community that understands your experiences and values your contribution.

why community matters
The Prison Service creates lifelong bonds built on trust, resilience, and shared experience. For many former officers and staff, leaving the service can mean losing that daily connection and sense of belonging overnight.

The Prison Veterans Society exists to bring that community back together — creating a safe, supportive environment where members can stay connected, support one another, and continue the friendships formed throughout their careers.

MISSION/VISION
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to support former prison staff who identify as Veterans, along with those who are partially retiring from the service by fostering reconnection, promoting wellbeing, and rebuilding the sense of camaraderie experienced during service. We aim to ensure that no Prison Veteran feels isolated or forgotten after leaving the Prison Service by offering peer support, social engagement, and access to practical assistance.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to build a nationwide network of Prison Veterans Clubs that creates lasting, supportive communities for all former prison staff. We strive to provide accessible, inclusive spaces—both online and in person—where Veterans can reconnect, share experiences, and receive support when they need it most. Through meaningful engagement, strong partnerships, and sustainable funding, we aim to become a recognised and trusted source of support for Prison Veterans across the UK.
